The UK car-buying public is still interest in flying the flag when it comes to where their cars are made, a recent survey has revealed. The research has shown that despite the country being in deep financial straits, UK motorists are still planning to buy a new or used car this year and of those asked almost two thirds said they were thinking about buying British.
When asked if they thought Britain had a strong heritage in the motoring industry nearly 70% agreed, even though most UK car manufacturers are ultimately owned by overseas companies. In fact around a third already owned a British made car which proves that national pride is still a factor when deciding on which vehicle to buy.
Around half of those asked said they would buy British to help improve the current economy and more than a third said they would buy British in support of the heritage of the UK in the motoring business. As well as British brand loyalty, it seems, we like the look of UK made cars as more than a third said they thought British cars were more classy; citing iconic models from Jaguar and Rolls Royce as examples.
This British brand loyalty extended to other items such as buying British groceries and clothing as well. Could it be the huge popularity of the Jubilee celebrations and the unparalleled success of both London Olympics has given our labouring national pride a boost?
