All about cheap car hire

With half term just around the corner many UK drivers will be planning a trip away as a last holiday fling to the sun before winter sets in. This could involve hiring a car at the other end especially if you are flying abroad to your destination.
However, be careful when you book your foreign car hire as hidden extras can creep in and make the bill more expensive than you may have budgeted for. A recent report by a leading high street travel money shop has revealed that the extra charges on a one-week car rental could almost double the cost.

Typical fees added on to the basic rental price include paying for an extra driver and excess waiver insurance. Often these charges may not be shown on an online booking so it is recommended that customers ring the car hire company as well to establish extract figures for add-ons.

Different countries and even different destinations in each country can make a big difference to the prices you could be charged. The poll found that on the whole costs rose more on average in European resorts than in those North America.

A spokesman for the company commented that many drivers were cutting back on these extras to save money but that this is a false economy as it could mean they are not completely covered by their car insurance in the event of an accident.
