Insurance claims at the first frost

There is now doubt about it now the nights are drawing in and the weather is taking a turn for the worse. The chilly mornings mean extra time for many drivers having to defrost or wipe windows and this can be a real pain first thing when you are trying to get out of the house on time.
You may think that it saves you time to start the car a few minutes before you have to leave and then pop back in the house for a last cup of tea but in fact you could be facing a lot more than frosty fingers if your car is stolen. Not only will you not have a leg to stand on with the insurance company but you may also be prosecuted by the police as it is, in fact, an offence to leave your car unattended whilst running even if it is in your driveway.

Also car thieves are notorious for getting up early specifically to look for cars that are left outside with the engine on and the keys in the ignition; for them it is a no brainer. Remember it is not only the car you could be missing, but what if your phone was in there, your sat nav, your work laptop? All these things would not be covered by insurance and you would have to pay out of your own pocket to replace them.
